The Quays waterfront apartment development draws on the best in European-style design, says the managing director of Melview Developments Nigel McKenna.
There has been an insistence on spaciousness, superior acoustic standards, quality materials and a restful living environment, he says. Featuring internal balconies and external shutters, The Quays’ design reflects its location at the heart of Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, on its only “truly north-facing site,” he adds.
“From the beginning we were determined The Quays should not dominate its surroundings but rather, be an expression of quality seldom seen in the Auckland property market,” the developer says. “We have been emphatic about combining the best in quality materials and design to create acoustically superior, spacious apartment living at The Quays.
“Living in the city is an exciting prospect but, at the same time, we know apartment owners need to be able to live comfortably and obtain peace and quiet when wanted,” says Mr McKenna. Taking the fullest advantage of sun and views over the water to the North Shore, The Quays is being built around an open plaza with steps opening down to the harbour-side walkway.
Most of its 64 apartments face due north or north-west with water views. The remainder have city views, with afternoon or evening sun. The design has been careful to maximize space and light, Mr McKenna says. High ceiling studs are standard throughout the building, adding to the sense of spaciousness.
“With the quite spectacular views over the Waitemata, we also incorporated the widest possible window space for each apartment.” Each apartment is air-conditioned and, Mr McKenna says, acoustics throughout the building will set new standards for inner-city apartment living. “This includes 11.76mm laminated window glazing, and double stud sound-rated party walls between each apartment – double the level required by the building code.”
The project should be completed in late October in time for residents to witness at first-hand the America’s Cup challenge. Only 14 apartments remain to be sold, including a number of one-bedroom city-side apartments priced from $221,000, ranging through to large north-facing waterfront apartments from $435,000 to $615,000.
