Lucas Point – creating a village with heart

Lucas Point – creating a village with heart

Lucas Point is one of the most distinctive residential developments in Albany.

Melview Developments Ltd Director Nigel McKenna is a man with a particular vision for the area.

What have you attempted to create at Lucas Point?
When we found the site we recognised it was a special size, a little promontory of its own with Lucas Creek on its boundary. You could well be in the Coromandel.

We worked hard with the architects to design something special, and came up with a three-stage development of seven homes, the majority of them three-bedroom. We wanted something suitable for a family environment, high quality in design and location but still affordable. The homes are priced in the mid $200,000s, which compares well with other developments.

The majority are standalone homes and we’ve allowed for some variation in terms of the layout of rooms, garages and decks. We also earmarked a bush site for community facilities: an architecturally designed gym, spa, changing rooms plus an under cover BBQ area and 8m swimming pool. It’s centrally placed in a lovely spot with a bush and creek outlook. Floor to ceiling glass in the gym lets you appreciate the surroundings.

How is the building progressing?
Stage 1 was the biggest stage and is now complete and fully sold. We’re starting Stage 2 which is almost sold out, and are launching Stage 3 shortly, increasing the variations as we progress.

Owner feedback has been invaluable on the project. We’ve picked up on the fact that people are keen on a little bit of individuality. We’ve also upgraded several things to enhance the development and increase the security aspect. The roading has been designed to avoid dead ends, and we’ve allowed for generous roadage and roundabouts.

We’re working with the council over a bridge and walkway to Albany village. A full-time live in site manager is responsible for the maintenance and security of the development and recreational facilities.

You believe in the concept of village and community?
Melview Developments is committed to the area, with the belief that Albany is going to go back to being a village with a heart. The atmosphere is returning with the cafes, shops and markets. We’ve been impressed by the commitment of everyone in Lucas Point to create a real community.

The Lucas Point show home is open weekends, or you can contact the real estate agents on this page.
