Nigel McKenna’s Melview Developments has applied to build a five-level, 58-unit apartment block on the former Log Farm at 95 Halsey St in the Viaduct Basin.

As part of his Lighter Quays development work on Viaduct Harbour Holdings’ land, McKenna’s newest block will have 64 parking spaces for apartment owners and 11 more for visitors. The council said this new block would be McKenna’s second in the area after North at Lighter Quay, and is part of a wider plan to bring canals through the land to create more waterfront area in downtown Auckland.

“Stage one involved the construction of a five-level apartment building at the northern end of the Log Farm and this is now almost finished,” the council said in its report. “

Stage two entails the excavation of the Log Farm interior to create a canal and marina area.

“This is the subject of separate resource consent applications to both the Auckland Regional Council and is presently on hold while issues relating to the diversion and take of ground water and the design of the lock gates are being resolved by the application.”

McKenna’s block will replace an America’s Cup base.

“The proposed building will occupy the eastern side of the site, on land formerly occupied by the GBR Challenge base building,” the council said. “Bounding the site is a conservation covenant.”
