A small place with an extraordinary place in New Zealand history.
In a modest garage on Remuera Road, Bruce McLaren’s remarkable journey began.
It was here, at his family’s service station and workshop, that a young Bruce developed his understanding of cars, engineering and performance – foundations that would eventually take him from Auckland to the international stage and establish one of the most recognised names in motorsport.
Today, Nigel McKenna is the custodian of this historic property.
Nigel recognises that the significance of the McLaren Garage extends far beyond the building itself. It represents ingenuity, determination and the extraordinary story of a New Zealander whose influence continues around the world.
Nigel’s approach to the property is therefore one of respect and responsibility: to protect its history, acknowledge the McLaren family and ensure the story connected to this place is treated with the care it deserves.
As I, alongside my team, consider the future of the site, we will continue to engage with those connected to its history and explore how the McLaren Garage can be preserved and thoughtfully celebrated for generations to come.
A piece of New Zealand history.
A legacy that travelled the world.
